4th Annual Lucerne Valley Car Show
At the 4th Annual Lucerne Valley Car Show , Saturday May 22 at Pioneer Park, sponsored by CSA 29, two local men won top trophies. Even with the high winds and cool temperatures die hard car enthusiasts came out to show off their cars and many more came out to appreciate them.
Travis Altimos won the "Best Nostalgic" trophy for his 1930 Ford Coupe that was all original and in great shape. Judge Rudy Necoechea, owner of the 2008 Grand National Champion car "Undisputed", which can be seen in Mother's Car Wax commercials, a gold all aluminum 32 coupe type custom car, said this car was awesome and deserved to be acknowledged. He insisted we create this category to make sure Travis' s car did not go unnoticed and we were happy to oblige. This will be a new category in the next show as well.
Rudy also loved Lucerne Valley's own Dick Allen's 1974 Ford Lincoln for having it's original mechanical system and engine and being in perfect stock condition. Dick drives his car everyday and it's a beauty! Dick well deserved his "Best Mechanical" trophy and recognition for keeping it in such great shape.
Other winners were Chuck Witter of Apple Valley for his 1958 Impala who won the" People's Choice" trophy and the "Best of Show" as well.
Jane Robidoux and her Dad Larry from Apple Valley won "Beat Interior" for their 1946 Ford Coupe. They keep coming back year after year and winning with this beautiful car.
"Best Exterior" went to Duanne Weaver of Barstow for his midnight blue 1968 Mustang.
" Best Under Construction" again went to Craig Sturgill of Hesperia who won it at the Candy Cane Classic III show last December. He has been steady working on it and changing it up.
Candy Cane Classic IV will be sponsored by the CSA 29 and held at Pioneer Park on November 13th, 2010, so get ready to have a good time and show off your car!
3rd Annual Lucerne Valley Car Show
It was a perfect day Saturday, May 30th for the 3 Annual Lucerne Valley Car Show at Pioneer Park in Lucerne Valley. With the parks lush green grass and big shade trees, it makes a perfect place for family’s to come out and enjoy the day. Sunny with a slight breeze, the car owners and spectators enjoyed the weather and all the great cars that came out to support the Lucerne Valley Parks and Recreation Youth Fund.
Well over one hundred and fifty people came out to look at some of the most fantastic cars in the area. Every make and model was represented. From the turquoise blue 1953 Chevrolet convertible of Stan O’Dell of Big Bear, to a 1931 Ford Coupe that belongs to Mark and Marcy Young, the 1933 Ford Roadster of Jim Johnson, to Frank Castillo of Lucerne Valley who’s 1929 Franklin Coupe was a favorite amongst the history buffs.
Carl Hammer came all the way from Sugarloaf California with his beautiful burgundy 1950 Mercury Coupe. It was a slick ride, no denying that. Kent Telford from Apple Valley brought a most unusual car, a 1963 Studebaker Avanti that was of special interest to the crowd. From Hesperia we had Curtis Cook, a great fellow who has attended several of our car shows, and a huge car enthusiast, with his yellow 1968 Dodge Cornet.
Superintendent of San Bernardino County Schools Dr. Gary Thomas and his lovely wife Beverly came to present the “Super’s Choice” Trophy. Local Lucerne Valley resident Dan Schuler won in his 1953 Willys CJ3B. The look on his face when he won was priceless.
Our three other judges of the day were Mr. Chico Garza from San Bernardino County Schools, Mr. Robert Eland, one of First District Supervisor Brad Mitzelfelt’s field representatives, and Mr. Rudy Necoechea, owner of the 1.5 million dollar, 2008 Grand National Roadster champion, “Undisputed”, which was here at our Candy Cane Classic I show and the 2 Annual Lucerne Valley show.
The Best Mechanical Trophy went yet again to Joe Brunasso of Oak Hills for his burgundy 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo. Joe is always a favorite, and has won several trophies here in Lucerne Valley. Another multiple winner in shows past is Larry Robidoux of Apple Valley with his 1946 Ford Coupe Super Deluxe, which won the Best Interior Trophy. Best Exterior went to Jack Welliver a new guy at our show with his beautifully done 1966 El Camino. Best of Show went to Paul Simmon with his out of this world black 1929 Ford Pick Up Roadster. And finally our People’s Choice Trophy went to our own Mike Terry of Lucerne Valley for his 1967 Ford Mustang G.T.
KFROG and Mr. K.FROG himself was here to entertain us with great country music and hugs for all the kids, big and small. A couple of people even started line dancing in the grass! What a great way to have a good time and help the community and its children.
